How to entertain kids without spending a dollar.

This may sound impossible for most parents. Most of us make sure we are well loaded with money before ever setting off on weekends. You see, most at times, we would rather travel miles to have fun with kids. This is $$.

If you are a mother of many kids like me, every dollar counts. Actually, I only have 3 kids. I can imagine those with 12 children or more. In the past, I used to take my kids several kilometers away from home every weekend. I barely paid attention to how that affected my income. As they say, you never know what you have until you lose it. It was only when I had plans moving to a new home that I started considering what I have. Like any other parent to little kids, my priorities were proximity to school and play grounds. This made moving harder than I thought it would be.

Properties I was interested in happened to be either too far from kids school or play grounds. That was when I realized what I actually have. I realized I have so much more around me. I’m not saying stick to play grounds only or closest places only. once in a while, its great to go out of town. but don’t make that a habit if you want to save.  If you are reading this, it’s because you’re probably looking for ways to save money rather than spending where it could have been avoided. Sometimes, people turn to look further away in search of something different. While others come from afar to enjoy those goodies right before them.

So firstly, explore your local district. local play grounds, fun historical villages, free events or conservation parks. Raceways, farm stays or in-door play grounds can be expensive. Whether or not you get a discount membership, it still costs a couple of $$$. why not stick to stuff that wouldn’t break the bank?save yourself a lot of money monthly.

I’ts ok to be a bit frugal. Instead of splashing out for entertainment. Remember to pack up some snacks from home at all times.

For new mums, most playgrounds are pram friendly. Have a walk around while your little one stairs at the birds and or trees surrounding him or her. I know you already do that. but you see, I used to think it’s important to find a new place to take my kids each time or on special occasions. It’s nice to do that. But the more you tend to look outside what you have, the further it takes you and that doesn’t help your pocket. That special occasion needs a special someone and that someone is you!

In the same playground, you can choose to do something new with your kids each time. With some sandwiches and poppers. find a good spot and have a picnic with them. A meal and play area in same place. This can save you lots of money whether its on school holidays or summer vacation.

Occasionally, there are also free events all across Brisbane or Gold-coast depending on your location. Get involve with the free fun kids events. Rather than choosing other paid events. Simply check your free local magazines on what’s happening around you. most of these free events are kids friendly your kids will enjoy.

Another way to entertain kids without spending a dollar is to have a movie night at home with your kids. Like Friday or Saturday nights. Instead of going to the movies and paying so much just for a movie with your kids, you can simply enjoy one of those movies you have stashed  at home. Joining them together with a bowl of popcorn will be awesome. Do this and you have just saved yourself over $100 in movie tickets or over $1,000 if you have 12 children. Ok. maybe a little exaggeration there.

And if its a nice sunny day, why not pack up some waterproof foot wears, sunscreen, some healthy snacks and head to the closest beaches or free outdoor pools? instead of an ”indoor pay to swim pool”? South-bank park lands is a great place to have endless fun for free. Depending on where you live in Australia, you could find several outdoor water parks for free. Saving yourself some money. These are just a few ways to entertain kids without spending a dollar.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope this was helpful. Especially, if you are new in Australia.  Lookout for my future posts.
